Project Faith in Light
Sep 2015 – Jan 2016
This project’s focus is to improve the learning culture and generate awareness about recycling amongst Cambodian kindergarten students studying at Hope in Light English Language School. Team Everlast modified the infrastructure of the classroom to make it more conducive for interactive learning. In addition, the team also helped to improve the lesson plans to promote interactive learning and environmental awareness.
A message from Team Everlast, who initiated Project Faith-in-Light
Hello! We are Team Everlast from Youth Corps Singapore. We partnered with Etch Empathy in order to bring improvements to a school in the rural areas of Cambodia.
This school is called Hope in Light English Language School and is run voluntarily by locals. There are only two classrooms and 342 students attending lessons every weekday.
Our focus was on improving the learning culture as well as generating awareness about recycling amongst Cambodian kindergarten students studying at the school.
We supported the efforts being made to expand the classroom to make it more conducive for interactive learning. This would include building a bottle wall to separate the new classroom into two, and installing environment-friendly bottle lights so as to brighten the dimly lit classroom.
Our team also co-designed improved lesson plans with the teachers to involve interactive learning and teaches the students about environmental awareness.
This project was highly intensive in the areas of building long-lasting infrastructure as well as skills and knowledge transfer, to ensure sustainability and scalability. We are happy to announce that we have succeeded in this mission and passed this project on to the locals to continue and maintain.
